The Establishment of MingDao University
Prof. Da-Yung Wang, the director of MDU founding committee, organized the committee in 1998.
Four sub-committee were hereby appointed:
Campus planning committee,
Curriculum innovation committee,
Financial control committee, and
Site construction committee.
In 1998, the founding committee visited a variety of universities in U.S.A., Australia, Canada, mainland China, Japan, and Hong Kong. The proposal of curriculum planning was completed and approved by MOE in 1999. MDU Board was assembled in 2000 and initiated campus construction in the same year. In 2001, the first 600 hundred students moved in the MDU dorm and started the first semester of MDU history in September.
Eight departments, with a total of more than 25 academic programs, composed MDU curriculum: Business Administration, Information Management, Hospitality Management, Digital Design, Applied English, Applied Japanese, Landscape Architecture, and Post-Modern Agriculture.
New departments, e.g., Chinese, Fashion Imaging, and Holistic Wellness were subsequently established. Four academic programs for master students were also added in 2003. |
