Missions and Goals

 

 

Following MDU’s traditional spirits—passion, vision, action—and educational goals—personality, humanity, and professionalism, the College of Management upholds a slogan—win the business, LOHAS the life as her missions of business education. Our goals are to maintain the highest level of educational quality to advance the students achieving their higher career targets in business practices and academia.

 

All students are being taught and trained in such a way that they know to do the right things right with motivated visions. Our graduates are characterized with essential elements of professionals, managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs. They are capable of defining, analyzing, and solving problems and challenges rigorously, and communicating with people logically. More importantly, they learn to sustain themselves with healthy lifestyles!

 

Currently, this college comprises five undergraduate departments including business innovation & development, global marketing & logistics, finance, hospitality management, leisure recreation & holistic wellness. Each department also provides night classes for continuing education. Additionally, the college also provides one bachelor degree program (BBA) for continuing education and two master degree programs (one EMBA under the college and one MBA under the department of business innovation & development). A public opinion poll center was set up to help collect timely opinions from the general public via the computer-aid-telephone-interview (CATI) systems. We offer battery of course modules to satisfy the changing needs of global business while maintaining a culture of innovation and dedication to research.

Students

As of August 1, 2009, there are 2,915 students enrolled in this college. Among them, 40 are in master programs (MBA and EMBA), 1,463 full-time undergraduate students, and 1,412 part-time (night school, overseas) students. About one third of them are from northern Taiwan, another on-third from central part, and the remaining from southern, eastern parts as well as offshore islands. Departments’ Highlights

 

 

 

Department of Business Innovation & Development (including MBA program)

 

This department aims to provide quality education of business innovation and development in general fields of business. Its mission is to prepare students for the first-line management in both public and private sectors upon graduation and to become successful managers and leaders in their future careers by the following:

l       Design a broad spectrum of business courses for students to develop their managerial competences in general fields of business.

l       Provide diversified programs integrating a strong fundamental study in business.

l       Build on core trains in business innovation and production management.

The department also provides a MBA program. It originated from the Institute of Management established in 2003 (renamed as the MBA degree program of College of Management in 2008). It aims to provide high-quality theoretical and practical education on general business administration to foster students becoming intermediate- to high-ranked mangers and leaders in their future careers.

 

 

Department of Hospitality Management

 

This department aims to be Taiwan’s premiere provider of quality-applied education in Culinary, Pastry Arts and Hotel and Restaurant Management. Its mission is to enable students to succeed in their individual careers and life goals by the following measures:

l       Develop and deliver a dynamic and relevant curriculum in partnership with industry.

l       Deliver curriculum by expert staff that foster a positive learning environment and a culture of continuous learning.

l       Build on core strengths in culinary arts and hotel and restaurant management.

l       Develop graduate with strong technical skills and applied knowledge.

l       Provide learning facilities that are modern and well equipped.

 

 

Department of Leisure Receration & Holistic Wellness

 

This department aims to provide practical education on leisure activities guidance, recreational industry management, regimen wellness, and management of holistic wellness business. Its mission is to enable students to become successful managers and professionals in their future careers by the following:

l       Design a broad spectrum of courses for students to develop their skills on leisure and recreational activities design and operation, regimen wellness and business management.

l       Provide diversified programs integrating a strong fundamental study in leisure recreation & holistic wellness.

 

 

Department of Global Marketing & Logistics

 

This department provides an innovative, critical thinking and creative environment committed to the excellence and elegance of global marketing and logistics education. It offers a solid education in the theory and practice of global marketing and logistics while also providing opportunities to more thoroughly study a particular aspect of the field so that they can succeed and thrive in tomorrow's challenging global marketplace. Current focuses are on consumer behavior, development and analysis of marketing strategies, retail management, marketing research, sales management, channel distribution and logistics. Its missions are to offer students a wide range of perspectives on what makes successful marketing and logistics as well as a broad selection of programs designed to prepare students for a variety of careers.

l       Provide practical education in specific topics of study and offer an educational experience including a strong emphasis on social responsibility in global marketing and logistics.

l       Design for students to plan and execute the conception development, pricing, promotion, and distribution of products and to manage customer relationships that benefit their organization and their stakeholders.

l       Prepare students for careers in sales, marketing research, brand management, retail marketing, marketing communications, distribution and transportation, and for graduate studies in business, advertising, and logistics.

 

 

Department of Finance

 

This department aims to provide theoretical and practical education on finance, investments and financial institution management. Its mission is to carefully prepare students for challenging and highly responsible careers in managing the financial operations of businesses, private and public institutions, by the following measures:

l       Design a broad spectrum of finance courses for students to develop their competences in fields of financial management.

l       Provide diversified programs integrating a strong fundamental study in finance, economics and management.

l       Build on core trains in finance, investments, and financial institution management.

 

 

Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) Program

 

The EMBA degree program was launched in 2007. It was originally subordinated to the Institute of Management but now under the College of Management. This program aims to advance the innovative knowledge for the on-job professionals in various industries, focusing on advanced business administration, marketing, finance, management practices. To practice cooperate governance skills, all students in each academic year are required to form a company and to take part in the real operation and management of that company. In addition, the topics of master theses are related to the issues of that company.

 

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Program

 

This BBA degree program was established in 2007 under the College of Management but administrated by the Continuing Education Department. It provides business administration study in general fields, aiming to prepare students for the first-line management in both public and private sectors upon graduation. A two-year overseas exchange study at UK is honored to eligible students with proven English capability.

 

Poll Center for Public Opinion

 

This center was established in 2009 aiming to collect timely opinions, satisfactions, and preferences for different issues from the general public through the computer-aid-telephone-interview (CATI) systems. The center may serve for different purposes, including elections, government policies or initiatives, major activities or events, market survey for new products, among others. Timely analytic results will to be released to the press.
