The MDU Radio Studio The mission of MDU Radio Studio is to broadcast information about MingDao University and Changhua County. The first MDU Radio programs introduced each department of MingDao University briefly. The most recent presentation of a department by MDU Radio is an extensive, updated one of the Department of Chinese Literature. MDU Radio is instrumental in the enhancement of students' English-language skills. The students who serve as presenters/anchors feel most honored to contribute to the programs, and they work hard to improve their English pronunciation. They look up the words that they have not known and check their pronunciation. In order to perfect further their English speaking skills, they listen to American news and attempt to imitate native English speakers’ intonation. One of the missions of MDU radio programs is to introduce English idioms and their usages. This is attained by specially-edited programs, which also include quizzes and answers. This section of the MDU radio program is appreciated very much by listeners. MDU Radio programs rely on articles based on students' ideas. For this purpose, the Department of Applied English regularly issues calls for papers. Some of the materials presented so far highlighted various aspects of Asian or Taiwanese culture and civilization, contrasted to cultures in the Western world. Students’ activity in MDU Radio helps them get used to various journalistic activities, boosting their chances of being hired by radio stations after graduation. The recording facilities of MDU Radio Studio also serve the instructional needs of the University. New language materials to be used in class are being created in the context of the Radio Studio. The radio studio consists of two rooms: the recording room and the control room. The recording room is separated from the control room by two soundproofing doors. The recording room is equipped with 4 microphones, while the control room is equipped with a digital mixer, an external soundcard, a DVD player, and a laptop. The DVD audio player provides access to background music. In order to produce a radio show, students who have been trained as sound engineers to record the sections of the programs spoken by students, which will then alternate them with music. The resulting radio programs are further processed and uploaded to the Internet, and made available for the whole world. |
